Kate Winslet's Home: 12 Piper Road | Kate Winslet's Work: Acton Senior Center

Extensive summer shooting in Acton for a major motion picture directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.

It's official - Hollywood is coming to Acton this summer. From June 25 to August 22, 2012, production crews for the film "Labor Day" will be renting out the parking lot of Honeywell Sensing & Control on Discovery Way, storing their film equipment there and shooting at locations on Piper Road and Audubon Drive.

Labor Day, directed by Jason Reitman will star Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin. The production crew picked out 12 Piper Road as the home of Winslet's character and home renovation will start taking place on the inside of their kitchen as soon as next Tuesday.

Winslet's character also teaches an exercise class to seniors in the film and the production company scouted the Acton Senior Center as a suitable place to film the appropriate scenes.

According to Town Manager Steve Ledoux, the Town, police officials and the production crew will be working together in the coming weeks to devise a traffic and crowd control plan.

Stay tuned.

I absolutely adore Kate Winslet - such a gifted actress! Let's keep it classy, Acton, and show them we can be a great host community!

I wonder if they were considering filming at my house... I came home one day last fall and there were strangers in my driveway taking pictures of the house. When they saw me trying to get in the driveway, they smiled and waved and then just left. It's an older house and it has window boxes that at the time were filled with pumpkins and the leaves were just right and it was a beautiful fall day, so I could see them thinking it was quintessentially New England. I wish they picked it!!!

Patrick, your last article said they would be shooting "on" June 25th and August 22nd, this article says "from" June 25 to August 22. Can you clarify? Big difference to the residents of those neighborhoods!

Big difference yes. I misheard Town Manager Steve Ledoux during his announcement at Monday's Board meeting - but in a follow up with Ledoux, he said it would be roughly in that time frame from June 25 to August 22.

Yes this is great! We lived there for 18 years, and I have always wanted to go back to see what it looks like now! I guess we'll get our chance to see the changes now!

Exercise classes at COA cancelled on 7/19 because the center will be taken over for Labor Day filming. True. I'm told that Labor Day author once lived in Acton & wrote for the Acton Beacon. True or false.
