Last spring, the Washington College softball team returned to the Centennial Conference Tournament for the second straight season for the first time. This year, junior Macauley Brooks (Acton, Mass.) will vie for time at first base. Brooks played in three games in 2012 and did not make an error in 10 fielding opportunities.
Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) matched her career high of 12 points but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was outscored 35-19 in the second half of the 59-45 America East loss to Boston University at Case Gym.
St. Michael's first-year Emily Loebs (Acton, Mass.) landed on the ECAC East Weekly Honor Roll for the first time. A defenseman, Loebs played a hand in both goals during the upset of Manhattanville while aiding a defense that yielded one goal over the course of the weekend. Against the Valiants, Loebs scored a go-ahead power-play goal 7:52 into the game before assisting the power-play winner 5:00 into the third period. She helped Saint Michael's hold opponents to an 0-for-11 power-play showing during the pair of contests. Loebs has appeared in 22 games, collecting the goal and three assists while committing only one penalty.
The UMass women's swimming and diving team sat in second-place with two days left of the Atlantic 10 Championships from the Spire Institute. Zoe Judd (Acton, Mass.) was the last Minutewomen swimmer to qualify in the evening finals. She was able to finish sixth in the 50-yard freestyle recording a time of 23.67. Her time was .35 seconds off her school record time of 23.32.
The #8 seed Bowdoin College Polar Bears upset the #1 seed Tufts University Jumbos, 60-54, in the NESCAC Championship Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Cousens Gym. Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.) had 7 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.
