Acton Golfer 1 Stroke Off Lead at Senior PGA Tournament

Defending champion Kirk Hanefeld shoots a 69 in first round in the Professional National Championship.

 

Acton native Kirk Hanefeld, the defending champion of the Senior PGA Professional National Championship, is one stroke back of the leaders in Leesburg, Va., after Thursday's first round, the Boston Globe reports.

Bob Gaus and Bruce Nakamura share the first round lead after both shot 3-under 69 at River Creek Club.

The final two rounds will be played at Creighton Farms.

The low 35 scorers will earn spots in the Senior PGA Championship in May at Bellerive in St. Louis.
