Blizzard Warning in Effect for Acton

Residents can expect up to 2 feet of snow.

 

Winter Storm Nemo. Blizzard watch. And now blizzard warning.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for most of eastern Massachusetts, including Acton, effective from 6 a.m., Friday to 1 p.m., Saturday.

Total snow accumulation will be 18 to 24 inches.

WHDH is prediction some areas could see 30 inches or more.

Acton DPW Director Dick Waite says he has a full crew ready to treat the town's roads.

All Actons schools have been cancelled. MBTA service suspended on all lines effective 3:30 PM on Friday, Feb. 8th; this includes T and commuter rail and bus, everything.

Along with heavy snow, residents can expect blowing and drifting snow at times.

Gov Deval Patrick has asked all drivers to be off the road by noon.

Visibility will only be about 1/4 mile.

Whiteout conditions are expected during the afternoon commute.

The blizzard will possibly damage trees and other structures, and power outages are anticipated.

Wind will be sustained 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 65 mph.

Temperatures will be in the mid 20s.

A blizzard warning is issued when sustained wind or frequent gusts more than 35 mph is expected with considerable falling and/or blowing and drifting snow.

Residents in the warning area are advised to stay indoors.
