Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers Cycles with Actonians for Cancer Benefit [PHOTOS]

Local Acton residents honor a close friend who passed away this summer by cycling in New York City this weekend to benefit cancer research.

Jennifer Goodman Linn of New York City passed away this summer from a rare cancer called sarcoma. In 2006 she was diagnosed and in 2007 she started a fundraiser event called Cycle for Survival, which is still running today and has raised over $15 million for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Acton residents Sarah and Dave Corbett, Sorrel Sammons and Dan Niemann all went to college at Northwestern University with Jennifer's husband Dave and started a lifelong friendship, along with head writer from Saturday Night Live, Seth Meyers, from Bedford, NH. When Jennifer started Cycle for Survival, they all pitched in for the cause.

“Jen had always been an exercise fanatic--it was how she recharged and got rid of any stress,” said Sarah Corbett. “She approached her spinning instructors and other spinning friends for help, and started the first year with just 50 bikes in New York City. It eventually grew to thousands of cyclers all over the country and as far away as Hong Kong and London.”

Seven Actonians and Meyers will be racing at this year's Cycle for Survival event, under their group name, Wheelin' 4 Healin'. Kat and Eric Hudson, Megan Pesce, Sarah and Dave Corbett, Sorrel Sammons and Dan Niemann are currently raising money for the race this Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Equinox Graybar in New York.

The team is looking to raise $40,000 by Feb. 12 and has currently raised $32,093.21. Click here if you’re interested in donating money to the team.

"It's a tribute to my friend Jen Goodman Linn, the toughest fighter I ever met," said Meyers. "I have a show on Saturday, but I'll wake up early Sunday and cycle because it's really hard to say, 'oh, I don't want to wake up early' when you remember everything that Jen went through and all that she accomplished."
