Updated: Late-Season Storm Forces Acton Schools to Use Another Snow Day

Winter storm warning in effect until 8 p.m.

UPDATED: 8:19 A.M.

The winter that won't end is causing more headaches for parents and students in Acton as they are waking up to about 6 inches of snow from this latest storm on the last official day of winter.

According to WHDH, Acton Public Schools and Acton-Boxborough Regional High School announced they would have to use another snow day.

Last week Acton schools announced the last day of school would be Friday, June 21. Parents and students can expect that to be extended to Monday, June 24.

WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Reiner said residents can expect the storm to exit late this afternoon.

"Thankfully, the storm is eager to leave so by evening (5pm) those pockets of snow, sleet & rain will shut down and only clouds will stick throughout the night," he said on his blog. "The storm is a fast mover so that means you'll hear some wind tonight — gusting from the west 15-25mph. Watch for areas of refreeze this evening & tonight."

Due to the weather, all Acton Town offices, including the library and transfer station, will delay opening until 11 a.m. Emergency services will continue to operate as usual.

Want some good news? Spring officially starts at 7:02 a.m., Wednesday.
