Not at all surprised!! Pedestrians should remember that though they DO have the right of way, it's prudent to look around to make sure that cars aren't backing up where you're walking. Be alert! Many cars have blind spots and drivers can't see pedestrians.

Really Catherine? It seems to me that most people in parking lots are on their cellular phones and not concentrating on driving. I have yet to pull into the parking lot of Roche Bros, and while I'm waiting to get in, the reason it takes so long is that I'm waiting behind someone chatting. What is so important that they can't wait to talk. Also, I agree with being vigilant of your surroundings, however I think it's unsettling to the person pinned underneath a car to say this.

Yes, really. I agree that too many people are chatting when they should be driving. I would never chat on my cellphone in a parking lot! But lots of drivers AND pedestrians do. Of course they have the right to not be run over, and of course it's the driver's fault if there's an accident. I'm just noting that people should be invested in their own safety, given the prevalence of cellphone-using drivers.
