Selectmen Support Green Acton's Drop & Swap Event

The Board of Selectmen agreed to help out with Green Acton's request for their third annual Drop & Swap event.

Members from Green Acton, a local group of volunteers looking out for Acton’s best environmental future, attended the Board of Selectmen meeting Monday night to ask for the Board to help with their third annual Drop & Swap event. The group was hoping the Town would sponsor the event, help advertise and to donate a town truck for assisting in the clean up after the event.

What is the Drop & Swap event?

Organized by Green Acton, the second annual Drop and Swap event will be held on May 5, 2012 at the from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Think of all that junk in your basement, garage and attic. Instead of letting it pile up at your home or throwing it away, drop it off at the Drop & Swap event so that someone else may get some good use out of it. Also, you never know what you may find there that someone else dropped off that would perfectly fit in your living situation.

Various vendors will be at the event to take the leftover stuff:

ProShred:  Onsite document shredding

Bikes Not Bombs:  Bicycle recycling

More Than Words: Book donations

HRGM: Household goods recycling

Big Brother Big Sister: Clothing & toy recycling

Conigliaro: Plastics/upholstery

The Board overwhelmingly supported the event.

“It’s actually a wonderful event,” said Selectmen, Pam Harting-Barrat. “It brings everyone out from the community and it gets the stuff out and puts it in an appropriate place so people are not tempted to leave it some place else.”
