VIDEO: Actor Josh Brolin On Set for Filming 'Labor Day' in Acton
The production crew of Labor Day had to work through a torrential downpour during filming Monday morning.
Official press release sent to Acton Patch:
Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., and Indian Paintbrush announced today that principal photography has begun on "LABOR DAY," from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman, with Academy Award®-winner Kate Winslet and Academy Award®-nominated Josh Brolin starring. The film is shooting in Massachusetts.
Based on Joyce Maynard's novel of the same name, the film is written and directed by Reitman ("YOUNG ADULT," "UP IN THE AIR") who will produce with his partner Helen Estabrook through their Right of Way Films banner, along with the Academy Award®-nominated team of Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith ("YOUNG ADULT," "JUNO") of Mr. Mudd. Steven Rales ("YOUNG ADULT," "LIKE CRAZY") and Mark Roybal ("EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE," "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN") of Indian Paintbrush will serve as executive producers.
"LABOR DAY" centers on 12-year-old Henry Wheeler, who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers, a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.
Winslet ("REVOLUTIONARY ROAD," "THE READER") stars as Adele Wheeler, the reclusive mother and Josh Brolin ("TRUE GRIT," "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN") is Frank Chambers. Gattlin Griffith ("GREEN LANTERN," "CHANGELING") plays Adele's son Henry. Rounding out the cast is Tom Lipinski ("SUITS") as the young Frank; Clark Gregg ("MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS") as Henry's father Gerald; Alexie Gilmore ("DEFINITELY, MAYBE") plays Marjorie, Gerald's new wife and Henry's stepmom; Lucas Hedges ("MOONRISE KINGDOM") plays her son Richard; Brighid Fleming ("GAMER") as Henry's friend Eleanor; James van der Beek ("DON'T TRUST THE B---- IN APARTMENT 23") as Officer Treadwell; Maika Monroe as young Frank's sweetheart Mandy; Brooke Smith ("GREY'S ANATOMY,") as Adele's friend Evelyn and Micah Fowler as Evelyn's son Barry.

I'd like to know why Acton was chosen as the spot for filming of LD. May Patch could do some investigative reporting?

I have a friend that works down the street a number of her co-workers have tried to talk to the people and they tell her they aren't he friendliest of sorts.. goes right along w/ the shelburne falls gossip. She says it's exciting to see the comings and goings and she hopes that someone that knows and would recognize these "celebs" would get the chance to meet them. Highly unlikely but maybe! She's optimistic for them!

Kerry: It's my understanding that the location was picked because the house was perfect for the film. The story takes place in NH.
Denise: The people I've met from the production crew were very nice. It is a closed set, which means there will be no interviews or public greetings with the 'stars,' which is quite understandable. They came here to work and they're all on a tight schedule/budget. If the door was open to have an actor/actress meet with the public, that door would never close, interrupting their work flow. 'Gossip' is the key word in your reference to the Shelburn Falls case. My best advice to anyone would be to just appreciate and relish in the fact that a major motion picture with grade-A 'stars' is being filmed in Acton, and let go of any notion of meeting one of them. Because at the end of the day, they're just like you and I - people. I would recommend picking up the book 'Labor Day' by Joyce Maynard. It's a once in a lifetime chance to read the book first of the film that is shooting in your town before it comes out.

All makes sense, Patrick. Thanks for giving the feedback. I was on Extra TV out in LA Jan 12 and that led to a follow up interview March 2012 in Vegas. I was able to see what is it like. Especially what goes on behind the scenes. You can see the interview on my website www.vanashflorals,com under press. check it out!

My sister in law said a movie with Kate and Leonardo was filmed in her town and they never saw them either. Although it would be fun to just bump into them around town :)

Where are the people who live in the house they are using for the movie?
