Weekend Happenings: Carnival Rides and River-Centric Fun
Lots to do this coming weekend without having to venture far from home.
The 56th Acton Lions Club Fair
When/Where: Friday, 6 p.m.-closing; Saturday and Sunday, noon-closing. The fair is located at the School Street Soccer Fields (off Route 2 on Acton/Concord town line).
The Buzz: Who doesn't love a Ferris wheel? Or Scramber? Or some other carnival ride loaded with nostalgia and a good time. This 56-year-old fair supports scholarships given by the Acton Lions Club and offers a good time for everyone. Stop by on Sunday for a reduced price "Ride All Night" ticket.
Price: Unlimited rides on Sunday night for just $25. (Only $20 with this coupon); ample free parking available.
When/Where: Events on Saturday, Sunday and Monday in various locations along the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers.
The Buzz: This annual event celebrates the rivers around which several towns, including Sudbury, Wayland, Weston, Acton, Concord and many others were built. From historical tours to storytelling, this festival offers something for everyone.

When/Where: Friday at 10 a.m. at Edwards Church in Framingham.
The Buzz: Rabbi Katy Allen will lead participants on an introduction to nature journaling. Participants can brings cameras, writing materials, favorite poetry or sacred texts on which to meditate and will enrich the journaling.

When/Where: Saturday at 7 a.m. at 49 Stonehedge Road, Lincoln.
The Buzz: Weston Conservation Agent Michele Grzend will lead a birding expedition of Lincoln, Wayland and Weston. This area is known for excellent birding as numerous species live in the vast open space within reach of the Sudbury River.
