West Acton is About to Develop a Sweet Tooth

New candy shop in West Acton is weeks away from grand opening.

Boxborough resident, Julie Carroll, is opening up Mia Bella Candy Box on 583 Massachusetts Avenue (date is scheduled for Sept. 30).

"It’s a whimsical candy store," said Carroll. "It’s a take on the old candy store that I grew up with."

Inside her Willy Wonka purple-walled candy shop will be buckets full of different candy to purchase by the pound, chocolate truffles, laughy taffy, Charleston Chews; candy from decades past.

Carroll has 12 years of experience setting up and launching businesses working for Hennessy Enterprises in Newton, MA, and is very much looking forward to launching her own in West Acton.

“I love the foot traffic here and all the people in West Acton are really friendly,” said Carroll.

The previous business in that location, UpStyle Consignment, went out of business in early July and the property was purchased by Carroll before the vacant property had a chance to become an eyesore for the community.

“Everything just fell into place and I got to open sooner than I anticipated,” said Carroll. “I only work 30 hours a week at my other job so I will get to be hands-on here.”

Carroll has already hired two local employees and is looking to be a presence during Oktoberfest, which takes place on October 1 in West Acton.

"I want to sell an experience for everyone to just come in and really have fun," said Carroll. "You’re never too old for candy."
