Candidate for Governor's Council, District 3
Should Donations Count?
One of the responsibilities of the Governor's Council will be to vet candidates for judgeships. Most of the applicants will be lawyers. Lawyers, by nature, are fairly political people...most politicians are/were lawyers. Being that most lawyers are active in politics, they tend to donate to politicians...politicians that have similar viewpoints as their own.
Should donations to the Governor/Lt. Governor or Governor's Council preclude someone from becoming a judge? In your view, does it matter when the donation was made? Does a donation to the Governor that was made 5 years ago differ from a donation that was made last year? What about donations to Governor's Council? Any thoughts?
