Read Moremads, mads, have you read of the other five cases of the last 18 months involving Children's taking custody or threatening to do so when families presented with lesser understood diagnoses from other hospitals? Did you see the interviews with the whistleblower nurse who used to work on Bader 5 there, or with the attorneys for the other children? (Check out www.foxct.com and click on Investigations for more info.

That would be nurse Kathleen Higgins? I just looked her up. I agree that there seem to beRead Morelegitima te questions about the Bader ward. But when I read about the parents actions they seemed questionable as well. Are you all saying that Medical Child Abuse is a phenomenon that does not exist at all? Or are you saying it is a real thing but it has never occurred in the Pelletier family? Or do you not know whether or not it has occurred but regardless you think Children's is such a flawed place that I can't be trusted in this or any other case? I am just curious and I was responding based on a very superficial impression I got by reading about these parents history (and my own experience with the difficulty of looking after my own child's much milder chronic condition).

Mads, I appreciate your concern for being careful in raising accusations. You are right to notRead Morewan t to make unwarranted assumptions about an institution or its members. That is a risk, when relying on media reports and not having the same info that is in the sealed records of a case that this can happen. That said, 51As should not be made lightly, and - the confiscation of one's child should be a measure of last resort, not first. Even the most circumspect commenters on this case seem to recognize that the actions on the hospital went down with alarming alacrity. The Pelletiers, however "in your face" they may have been with providers as they have sought answers to their child's condition, have documentation from hospitals and doctors for all of the interventions she has received. If Children's doesn't like these interventions, they should "go jousting" at Tufts, or take it to the AMA, and not take punitive actions against a family.
