Tufts University junior defensma Matt Callahan (Acton, Mass.) has been named an All-NESCAC first team selection. Callahan is the only repeat first team selection, making the 2012 team. Through 14 games, Callahan has scooped up 33 ground balls and caused 19 turnovers, in addition to chipping in with two goals and three assists. Callahan was also named NESCAC Player of the Week last week after he anchored a Tufts defensive unit that allowed the fewest goals in a NESCAC Championship game since 2008 with the Jumbos' 11-6 victory over Wesleyan on Sunday. In Saturday's 14-11 semifinal win over Connecticut College, Tufts allowed only six shots on net in the first half and 18 for the game. Callahan caused one turnover and scooped up four ground balls over the weekend, in leading the Jumbos to their fourth straight conference crown.

Eastern Conn. State University defended its Little East Conference men's lacrosse championship with a 9-8 upset victory over top-seed Keene State College at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday. Freshman Tyler McKelvie (Acton, Mass.) scored twice in the loss.

The Holy Cross Women’s Track and Field Team has witnessed some of its best performances at the annual Holy Cross Invitational over the years, and this year’s meet was no different. The Crusaders placed first out of seven teams, outperforming UMass Amherst, Maine, Stonehill, Central Connecticut, Hartford and Bryant. Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) tied for third in the pole vault.

No. 29 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University baseball team finished off a three-game weekend sweep of Stonehill with a 4-3 victory in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play at Dr. Arthur and Martha Pappas Field. Relief pitcher Steven Hathaway (Acton, Mass.) fanned three over two innings.

InsideLacrosse.com has named, Kelsey McGovern (Acton, Mass.), a junior defender for UMass Amherst, a top-10 game-changer. UMass, once again, leads the Atlantic-10 in 2013 and it is in large part due to McGovern’s ability to control the Minutewomen’s possessions. A team-leading 83 draw controls, McGovern’s dominance from the minute the whistle blows has catapulted her into a class of her own for UMass. Furthermore, the junior defender has picked up 35 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers—both team-highs.

After helping the UMass women's lacrosse team to a 20-11 win at La Salle last Saturday, junior defender Kelsey McGovern (Acton, Mass.) was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week by the league office. This marks the third time McGovern has won the award this season which ties the league record set by Katie Florence in 2010. All told this year, a UMass player has won the weekly defensive award six times now which is a new league standard.

McGovern tied her career-high with 11 draw controls at La Salle and led the Minutewomen with three caused turnovers and three groundballs. The 11 draw controls were also just one shy of the program's single game record. Her 107 career draw controls now ranks 6th-best all-time at UMass, while her 72 this season ranks 3rd for a single-season. Individually, McGovern ranks 3rd nationally in draw controls (6.55/game), 19th in caused turnovers (1.82/game) and 24th in groundballs (2.73/game).

Four Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse players netted hat tricks on Saturday, leading the Purple Knights to a 17-7 victory against Southern Connecticut State University during Northeast-10 Conference action at Duffy Field. Junior Shannon Murphy (Boxboro, Mass.) added a goal and two assists.

No. 5 Washington (Md.) had the final say in a back-and-forth affair, topping McDaniel 14-12 in the Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse opener for both teams on Saturday. Christian Dallmus (Acton, Mass.) backstopped a defense that saw a barrage of 53 shots, making a career-high 22 saves.

A six-goal first half run and a strong second half defensive effort led to a 16-5 win over Vermont for the No. 17 UMass women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at McGuirk Stadium. Kelsey McGovern (Acton, Mass.) had a game-high eight draw controls, five groundballs and two caused tunovers to lead the Minutewomen on defense.

A total of 139 UMass student-athletes earned Atlantic 10 Commissioner Fall Honor Roll accolades as announced by the league office. A record total of 1,637 student-athletes in the league posted 3.5 GPA's or better which is the most in Bernadette McGlade's tenure as league commissioner. Among them was: Kelsey McGovern - Lacrosse - Jr. - Acton, Mass. - Kinesiology.

Last spring, the Washington College softball team returned to the Centennial Conference Tournament for the second straight season for the first time. This year, junior Macauley Brooks (Acton, Mass.) will vie for time at first base. Brooks played in three games in 2012 and did not make an error in 10 fielding opportunities.

The Holy Cross women's indoor track team cruised to a 21-point victory over Maine, defeating the Black Bears 100.50 to 79.50. In the women’s pole vault, there was a three-way tie for third with sophomore Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) equaling a height of 3.20 meters

Holy Cross freshman Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) has received ECAC women's hockey Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after her performance the week of Jan. 14-20, as announced by the league. Goguen tallied two goals against Colby for her third and fourth scores of the season. She also recorded the first game-winning goal of her career in the victory. Goguen leads all Holy Cross freshmen with 10 points on the season.

Freshman Kati Goguen (Acton, Mass.) scored her third and fourth goals of the season to lift the Holy Cross women's ice hockey team over non-conference foe Colby on the road by a score of 3-1.

Sophomore Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass.) led the Tufts women's basketball team during a busy 4-0 week to begin the new year and has been selected as the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week (ending June 6).

Foley averaged 13.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game as the Jumbos earned wins at Connecticut College (69-37), at Clark (65-53), and at home in the opening week of NESCAC play against Williams (61-57) and Middlebury (54-41). She was 6 for 15 (40 percent) shooting three-pointers.

The Jumbos capped the week with two milestones in the Middlebury game. It was the 200th victory of head coach Carla Berube's career, and it marked the program's best-ever start at 13-0.

Scoring double-digits in all four games, Foley led the Jumbos with 18 points at Conn and tied for the team lead with 14 at Clark and 13 against Williams. She shot 48.7 percent over (19/39) and was 11 for 12 from the line (91.7 percent).

Foley was 6 for 9 from the floor and made both of her three-point attempts at Connecticut College, while adding three steals defensively. She had three more steals while shooting 6 for 10 (2 for 4 on threes) at Clark. During the conference weekend, she had 13 points and five rebounds against Williams and 10 points with three steals in the Middlebury game.

Foley is among the NESCAC top 10 in a few categories. Her 12.2 points per game overall led the squad and are seventh in the league. She is the sixth most effective three-point shooter with a .406 percentage (26/64). She's also fifth in the league with a total of 25 steals.

On Saturday, Jan 5, at the Father Diamond Indoor Track Invitational hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., Georgetown University sophomore Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass.) qualified for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships with a fifth-place finish in the 500m (1:15.17). The Georgetown women's 4x800-meter relay team featuring Keklak, Madeline Chambers, Katrina Coogan and Hannah Neczypor also qualified for both championships with a first-place time of 8:53.63.

The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was defeated 58-47 by Cleveland State University in non-conference action at Wolstein Center. Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) had seven points, four rebounds and two steals for UNH.

The women's swimming and diving team defeated Northeastern, 158-142. It is the first time in the last 10 head-to-head matchups that the Minutewomen knocked off the Huskies. Zoe Judd (Acton, Mass.) led the great all-around team effort with three individual wins. She was able to take first in 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 24.92, 53.36 and 1:54.76.
