A-B sports teams begin winter season with wins UNH bound senior Elizabeth Belanger scored 36 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in a 61-51 win over Dual County League Large opponent Newton South last Friday. The A-B girls hockey team also started strong out of the gate as they shutout Fontbonne 9-0 on Saturday. The boys swim and dive team also won their first match of the winter sports season as they defeated Bedford High School 81-65 on Saturday. A-B Football announces post-season recognition Five seniors and one junior were named Dual County League All-Stars by the Dual County Large coaches: Mike Duggan, (linebacker) was named Dual County League Defensive Player of the Year; junior Billy Jackman (defensive back); Jake Pilecki (defensive line); Brooks Poulin (defensive line); Kyle Sweeney (running back); and Peter Trombly (linebacker). Sweeney and Colonials and Finish Strong The Acton-Boxborough Colonials defeated the Westford Academy Grey Ghosts on Thanksgiving Day 21-14. A-B finishes the 2011 season with a 7-4 record and senior running back Kyle Sweeney and his offensive line had a game to remember in their finale as Sweeney rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. Sweeney finished the 2011 season with over 1,300 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns. Acton-Boxborough got six rushing touchdowns from six different players on their way to a 42-7 rout of win less Newton South. A-B Bounces Back Strong Acton-Boxborough (5-4) dropped a hard fought 21-14 DCL Large football game to Lincoln-Sudbury (9-0) on Friday night. The Colonials got within striking distance in the second half as Billy Jackman scored on a 14-yard touchdown run but L-S hung on to take control of the DCL Large and remain undefeated at 9-0. A-B Bounces Back Strong Acton-Boxborough (5-3) bounced back this Friday from their loss to Concord-Carlisle last weekend by defeating Waltham 34-7 in DCL Large league play. After a balanced first quarter that saw each team score one touchdown A-B ran off 27 straight points on their way to their fifth win of the season. A-B spread their offense around with four different offensive players scoring touchdowns (three rushing, one passing) on the evening. A-B Football Falls to 4-3 Despite a spirited third quarter comeback the Colonials could not catch the red-hot Patriots as Concord-Carlisle (7-0) defeated A-B 35-12 in Concord on Friday night. A-B senior fullback Matt Brogie scored the lone A-B touchdown in the third quarter on a 2-yard run that capped off their best drive of the night. Jack Perry kicked the extra point and also added a 27-yard field goal in the quarter to cut the C-C lead to 10. A-B runs down Boston Latin The Acton-Boxborough Colonials football team improved to 4-2 on the season as they defeated Boston Latin 28-8 on a rainy Friday night. The Colonials received a balanced running attack and strong line play that featured touchdown runs by Brooks Pouilin, Kyle Sweeney, Matt Brogie, and Peter Connell. The Colonials return to action this Friday night when they travel to Concord-Carlisle to face the rival Patriots. The Patriots are 6-0 and are off to their best start in recent years. A-B defeats Wayland on Thursday night The Acton-Boxborough Colonials football team improved to 3-2 on the season as they defeated Wayland 23-16 on Thursday night. The Colonials led 13-6 after the first quarter and never looked back as the A-B defense shut the Warriors out for the remainder of the night en route to the victory. A-B Varsity athletic teams The Acton-Boxborough football team dropped a 21-6 contest on Friday night to Marshfield High School. A-B (2-2) got a strong effort from senior tailback Kyle Sweeney who had 90 yards rushing and scored the Colonials' lone touchdown on the night on a 5-yard third quarter touchdown run. A-B enters league play this week on Thursday night as they host the Wayland Warriors (2-2) at 7 p.m. at Leary field. Wayland is coming off a 14-12 victory over previously unbeaten Boston Latin. Field Hockey remains undefeated on the season The A-B girls field hockey team defeated Waltham 3-0 on Saturday to  their improve their overall record to 4-0-2 (3-0-1 in the DCL Large). Sophomore Eleana Cardarelli, senior Kyra Beaudoin, and freshman Leah Cardarelli all scored in goals in the win. Acton-Boxborough Girls Soccer goes undefeated last week The A-B girls soccer team had a strong week as they went 2-0-1 to improve their record to 3-2-1. After defeating Westford Academy on Tuesday 2-1, A-B scored a 2-0 victory over Wayland on Thursday and a 2-2 tie with Algonquin High School on Saturday. A-B has scored 10 goals on the season while giving up only seven. After giving up 34 points last week to Westford Academy, the Chelmsford Lions (2-0) came out on Friday night and shut out the Acton-Boxborough Colonials (1-1) 26-0 at Leary Field in Acton. The Lions got superb team defense and senior quarterback, Colby Emanouil, had the game of his career rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another in the win. Emanouil's two rushing touchdowns came in the first half as the athletic signal caller improvised and ripped through the Colonials defense for scores of 46 and 32 yards. A-B broke a scoreless tie at the 14:34 mark remaining in the second half when freshman Alex Spangler found senior forward Dani Cremmen on a beautiful cross for the goal and a 1-0 lead. The first half was a battle of the goalies and defense as neither team could find their rhythm offensively. A-B senior goalie Ellen Conway was in control all day and was matched shot for shot early by Wayland senior keeper Mackenzie Salitsky. After winning the first two sets of the match, 25-17 and 25-17, the Acton-Boxborough girls volleyball team (2-0) seemed to be rolling toward another three set victory to start their 2011 season. Weston (1-1) and junior outside hitter Sydney Halloran would have something to say about that as the Lady Wildcats took advantage of Halloran's hot serving and striking of the ball to battle back and win the third set, 25-19. Weston found their rhythm in the third as they never trailed in the set and carried that momentum into the fourth set. They jumped out to a 3-1 lead and never looked back. They …
