DESCRIPTION:Rethinking Sin and Evil in an Era of Scientific Promise &ndas
h\; A Book Study\nHas the time come to rethink what sin and evil mean?&n
bsp\;The ActonCongregational Church presents &ldquo\;Rethinking Sin and
Evil in an Era of Scientific Promise\,&rdquo\; a five-Sunday series offe
red 10-10:30am\, April 15 &ndash\; May 20 (no class May 6)\, in the chur
ch's Grimshaw Room. With the exception of Sunday morning\, do we often d
ismiss sin and evil as irrelevant and antiquated? Is there&nbsp\;tension
between the modern world&rsquo\;s relativism and the reality of evil ac
ts most readily exposed on a daily basis in our instant media culture?&n
bsp\;An American Theologian\, Reinhold Niebuhr\, took the initial step t
oward emancipating sin from a literal past and the notion that we sin be
cause of one defining moment in history. Yet the task is left undone\; f
or there is a world of evolution\, genetics\, and cyber space to take in
to account. How can this not be a lively discussion of a critically impo
rtant topic?\nAbout the leader: The Rev. Richard Coleman of Westford Mas
s.\, is an ordained minister in the UCC\, author of five books (the last
three looking at the dialogue between science and religion)\, and a gra
duate of Johns Hopkins University and Princeton Theological Seminary. Li
mited copies of&nbsp\;Eden's Garden: Rethinking Sin&nbsp\;are available
at the church office for $18.00.\nPlease contact the church office at 97
8-263-2728 or office@actonc.org for more information.
