Former Miss Massachusetts to Host Falling for Science Gala

We've got five things you need to see, do and know on Oct. 17 in Acton.

1. The Discovery Museums Celebrate Women in ScienceThe Discovery Museums announced its annual fundraising party, Falling for Science 2013, will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, and hosted by Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle, the founder and chairman of Science from Scientists and CEO of Counterpoint Health Solutions and a former Miss Massachusetts. 2. Today in Public Meetings: According to the town website, public meetings posted for Oct. 17 include the Acton Community Housing Corporation at 7 p.m., the Health Insurance Trust at 8 a.m., the Economic Development Committee at 7:30 p.m., the Acton Public School Committee at 7 p.m., the Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee and Acton Public School Committee at 7 p.m., the Acton-Boxborough Transitional School Committee at 7:15 p.m. and the South Acton Train Station Advisory Committee at 7:30 p.m.

5. Wet and Warm One: Possible showers in the forecast for today, along with a high of 71, according to the National Weather Service, which says rain is likely overnight and the low will dip down to only 51.
