GSRNE Congratulates Kevin Lanouette of Abby Kennels

Every year at their annual Picnic and Reunion Event, German Shepherd Rescue of New England (www.gsrne.org) recognizes an individual who shared time, talent and resources with the Organization.  For his tireless work on their behalf in 2012, Abby Kennels’ owner Kevin Lanouette was awarded the GSRNE Starfish Pin.

Sometimes it seems like one person can’t make a difference.   As quickly as a dog is placed, another dog comes into rescue.  The volunteers at GSRNE embrace The Starfish Story of Rescue to remind everyone that every little bit helps:

An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached & dying after a storm.

A young man was picking them up & flinging them back in the ocean.

“Why do you bother?” the old man scoffed.  “You’re not saving enough to make a difference.”

The young man picked up another starfish & sent it back into the water.

“Made a difference to that one,” he said.

You make a difference, every day.

You make a difference, every day.

Kevin became involved with GSRNE several years ago.  His love of German Shepherds extends well beyond his own dogs and business.  When foster homes are not available and a dog needs to be removed quickly from its home, Kevin always finds space for it at the Kennel.  He has often met volunteers well after closing time or before opening time to receive a dog in need.  Last Christmas, Abby Kennels of Chelmsford (www.abbykennels.com) held a wildly successful Pictures With Santa event and  GSRNE was the recipient of the donations.

Those of us who work with Kevin know that dogs are his passion.   We’re extremely proud of the difference Kevin makes every day in the lives of all dogs.  Congratulations, Kevin!
