Mrs. Helen M. (Todisco) Young funeral services

Helen M. (Todisco) Young, 90, a Maynard resident since 1987 and formerly of Acton, died peacefully Fri. Nov. 1, 2013 at the Concord Health Care Center with her family by her side.   She was the beloved wife of the late Henry M. Young, who died in 1987, and mother of the late Michael Young who died in 1993.

Born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain, she was the only child of the late William and Helen (Rothwell) Todisco.  Mrs. Young attended Blessed Sacrament School and was a graduate of Boston Girls Latin High School and secretarial school.  She was first employed at Ginn and Company, where she met her future husband, Henry.  The couple married in 1944, and lived in Brookline Village for several years before settling in Acton in 1959.  Mrs. Young focused her life around her husband and their seven children, and in later years she worked for a time at The Beacon newspaper offices.  A voracious reader, she enjoyed a wide variety of subjects including detective novels and religious topics, as well as crossword puzzles. She loved being outdoors and especially liked gardening.  For over 25 years Mr. and Mrs. Young met with several Acton couples for a Friday night prayer group.  Until recently Mrs. Young was also a member of Our Lady’s Rosary, making thousands of rosaries for the missions.

She is survived by her children, Paul Young of Acton, David Young and wife Debra of Chemainus, British Columbia, Barbara Young of Maynard, Loretta Wesley and husband Mark of Maynard, Martha Young and husband Vincent Wolff of Mountainview, CA, and Diane Young and husband Kevin Reeds of San Francisco; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
