The Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council invites all children in K through 8th grade residing in the towns of Acton and Boxborough to submit their ideas for a name for the sculpture recently installed in the wetlands at the Nathaniel Allen Recreation Area (NARA) Park. Submissions should contain the suggested name for the sculpture and a sentence or paragraph giving the reason why you think your choice of name is appropriate for this sculpture. Your name, address, phone number, grade and school attended should be included in your entry. Entries should be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or sent by regular mail to ACTON-BOXBOROUGH CULTURAL COUNCIL P.O. Box 2291 Acton, MA 01720. Last date for submissions is April 30th 2014.
The winner will receive a gift card for Quill and Press and be honored at a ceremony to be held at 4 p.m. on June 1 2014 at NARA Park.
The sculpture, shown below, is a collaboration between Massachusetts artists Carolyn Wirth and Joyce Audy Zarins, features a large central heron surrounded by a hawk, a duck, a bullfrog and a perch fish, all wildlife which inhabit the park and is fabricated from recycled mild steel.
