New Sculpture to be Installed at NARA Park

The Acton Boxborough Cultural Council is delighted to announce the installation of a sculpture to be placed in the wetlands area at NARA Park in Acton within the next few weeks.

The sculpture, created by Maynard artist Carolyn Wirth and fabricated by sculptor Joyce Audy Zarins, is made from recycled mild steel and represents some of the wildlife which inhabits the park.

The ABCC appreciates the assistance of Recreation Director Cathy Fochtman and Conservation Director Tom Tidman to help find the perfect location and prepare the site for installation.

This sculpture is a continuation of a program started by the ABCC in 2010 when it hosted “The Art of Recycling” a workshop at NARA Park in which the community was invited to create their own art using recycled materials.  Later that year an exhibition of recycled art was held at the Sargent Memorial Library in Boxborough.  The following year a sculpture, “Hollyhock” created from recycled materials by Madeleine Lord, was installed on the grounds of the Sargent Memorial Library.

Owing to the unpredictable weather at this time of year, Acton-Boxborough Cultural Council will host a ceremony at NARA Park to present the sculpture to the Town of Acton in the Spring of 2014.  Please go to our website – actonboxboroughculturalcouncil.org  for updates on this, and other ABCC events.
