David Sironen, Acton Korean War Vet, Dies at 83

David E. Sironen, 83, of Acton, died Thursday April 24, 2014 in Concord. He was the husband of 62 years of the late Joyce (Wheeler) Sironen who died April 17, 2014.

Born in Boston on July 11, 1930 he was the son of the late Toivo Matti Sironen and Tyyne Maria (Lehto) Sironen.

He grew up in Maynard, and in his youth he worked at Fine Arts Theatre, First National Store, and the former People's Theatre, all in Maynard, and was active in the Boy Scouts. He attended Maynard schools, was a 1949 graduate of Maynard High School, attended Northeastern University in Boston and received a Bachelor's degree from Wentworth Institute, also in Boston.
In the early 1950's Mr. Sironen served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

A resident of Acton since 1958, he was employed as a Quality Control Engineer for many years at various companies including GenRad, Raytheon and Cryogenics.

He was also employed as a cook and assistant manager at Howard Johnson's Restaurant in Concord and at Friendly's Ice Cream in Concord and Acton.  For several years he worked in outside services at Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord.

An avid fisherman and golfer, he enjoyed travel, camping, and was an avid follower of his children's athletic endeavors.

A long time member of the South Acton Congregational Church, he and his late wife Joyce enjoyed their time as members of the church's choir.

He is survived by his son Alden Wheeler Sironen and his wife Michele of Cary, North Carolina, his daughter Dorinda Joyce Sironen and her partner Scott Waldron of Mesa, Arizona, and his granddaughter Megan Sironen Davis  and her husband Jonathan of Apex, North Carolina. He was also the uncle of Charlton Sironen and his wife Christina of South Carolina, great uncle of Jennifer Sironen of Georgia, and great great uncle of Kalia and Carson.  In addition to his late wife Joyce, he was pre-deceased by his daughter Sarah Louise Sironen, his brother Robert Sironen, and his nephew David Sironen.

Visiting hours will be held Monday May 5th from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center followed by a funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:30 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Katrina Wuensch, Pastor of South Acton Congregational Church.

Interment with military honors will follow in the family burial plot  in Glenwood Cemetery, Maynard.
