Saying Yes to Peace
On Mother’s Day, an enthusiastic group of peace activists representing First Parish in Concord met early morning
at the church and drove to Dorchester to join in the annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace. Organizers estimate that
close to 10,000 marched this year on the 3.5 mile walk through the neighborhoods of Dorchester.

says Rev. Margie King Saphier, who organized Team First Parish Concord.
Now in its 18th year, The Walk draws supporters from all over Greater Boston and suburban communities.
This is the major fundraiser for the Louis D. Brown Institute. Tina Chery co-founded the Institute in 1994 after
her 14-year-old son, Louis, was killed on his way to Teens Against Violence meeting.
Chery and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh were featured speakers at The Walk.
The Institute has become a peace and healing center for families who have lost children to violence
and an educational resource for the city of Boston and beyond.
