Art Exhibit of the Human Body at Acton Memorial Library

The work of artist Biying Zhang is on display until Aug. 30.

“Alienation,” an art exhibit by Biying Zhang, is currently on display at Acton Memorial Library until Aug. 30.

Zhang, an artist originally from China, came to the U.S. in 2008.

"I make art about human life experiences, memory, and perception, and I explore how these concepts relate to my place of residence in China and the United States," she says on her website. "I question whether people and the place where they live are dispensable or whether the two cannot be separated. I am also fascinated to study the perceptions we hold that align us with mainstream society or lead us into a physical or mental state of marginalization."

The exhibit includes paintings of different parts of the human body.

"I hope my work can be a starting point for discussion about who we are and how we fit into a world that is hopeful and alien," she says. "The audience is free to analyze and draw their own conclusions. There may be no easy answers."

The exhibit is free to the public. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The library is closed on Sundays during the summer.
The exhibit is part of the library’s ongoing series of works of area artists.
