From more expensive, healthier food for Fido and Mittens, to veterinary insurance, health and wellness programs, pet sitting and specialty products, Americans are spending more on their pets than ever before.

Americans spent a record-high $55.7 billion on their pets last year, according to a report in the Boston Globe. That amount is expected to approach $60 billion in 2014. The information comes from a chief executive of the American Pet Products Association at the Global Pet Expo this week in Orlando, Fla.

Last year, more than 3,000 products aimed at your pet debuted at the expo—just to give you an idea of how big the market is when it comes to our four-legged friends.
