Acton Restaurant Eating Its Profits to Feed the Hungry

More details on Local Table's 'Buy a Meal, Give a Meal' program to support the community supper.

With its new “Buy a Meal, Give a Meal” program, Acton eatery The Local Table is inviting those who dine out to help those who can’t.

The way it works is, for everyone who dines at Local Table for dinner on Thursday or for brunch on Saturday or Sunday and says they’re participating in the “Buy a Meal, Give a Meal” program, the restaurant will donate a 1:1 match to Acton’s community supper.

Business owner Rose Saia said she hopes the program will be sustainable and replicable, but for that she’ll need locals to patronize the restaurant on during those designated service times.

“What I need, ideally, is a one-to-one match,” said Saia. “I need the profit of that meal to provide a meal for community supper.”

To participate, all diners need to do is tell the host or server they want to participate in the “Buy a Meal, Give a Meal” program. There’s no special menu, no upcharges and no invitation to add a dollar to the check – and that’s by design.

“This is a conscious act that I think has a different feeling,” said Saia. “All you have to do is go out and enjoy a meal. … The bet I’m making is that you’re going to come in at this time, remember m, and come in again at another time.”

Local Table’s monthly goal is to provide about 80 or 90 meals for one community supper each month. Additionally, for the month of December, any holiday catering order of $100 or more will credit toward 5 meals.
