New Restaurant Eyed for Nagog Park Site

Former ScupperJack's eatery will become an American-style pub and restaurant.

Fans of American style cuisine will soon see a new restaurant in Acton that will fill the empty lot that once housed ScupperJack’s Restaurant & Bar.

At its July 8 meeting which was taped by Acton TV, the Board of Selectmen OK'd a common victuallers’ and entertainment license for the Red Raven at 3 Nagog Park.

"We began renovating (earlier this month)," said John Apazidis of Wayland. "We're planning an upscale American cuisine."

Selectman Mike Gowing asked Apazidis asked whether the new establishment would mirror ScupperJack's, which had about 200 seats.

Apazidis said yes, with a couple of twists.

"We're planning to use a portion of first floor for a white tablecloth restaurant with the other half as more of a pub seating area," he said. "Upstairs will be for overflow of the restaurant. What we’re doing for ADA compliance is adding a whole separate bathroom."

Apazidis, who said he's been in the restaurant business since he was 14 years old, said all services will be held on the first floor unless they are having "a great night."

Jenifer Apazidis added she and her husband have hired an executive chef.

"I'm excited to see you guys come in," Selectman Katie Green said.

ScupperJack’s had been in business for 19 years before closing abruptly in February 2011.
