ScupperJack's Has Closed

Owner of ScupperJack's at Nagog Park for 19 years says he closed the restaurant because of a recent injury.

According to a letter posted on the front door of ScupperJack’s, the restaurant has been closed due to health-related issues. Owner Jack Mendosa wrote in the letter that he recently suffered a bad fall, leading him to undergo surgery on both legs. According to Mendosa’s letter, he felt it was the proper time to end the 19 year-long restaurant at Nagog Park, not only because his recovery process might be lengthy, but also because of the hardships of the current economic climate.

“It has been a difficult few years with the economy and we have been hit hard; as so many of you can appreciate,” stated Mendosa in the letter. “We have struggled to continue to provide the level of excellence all of you have come to expect.”

House piano player at ScupperJack’s for many years, , was very sad when she heard the news.

“My heart is broken,” said Eaton. “I’ll miss everybody I’ve met there over the years. It is just very sad for everybody.”

According to Eaton, Mendosa was vacationing in Saint Lucia when he suffered the injury while hiking.

In the letter, partner/owners Jack and Chris Mendosa and Don Cernak gave their best wishes to the community for all their support over the years.

“To our staff and regular patrons, you will be missed like family,” the letter read.

I guess getting reimbursed for outstanding gift certificates is out of the question?

I have not seen any information about getting reimbursed for gift certificates. However, another restaurant in town will credit you 50% of your Scupper Jack's gift certificate if you use the whole amount at their place...it's Bella Famiglia on 2A. This is pretty generous of them, as they are not going to recoup that money. I imagine finding new customers is the goal! I'd call ahead and make sure this offer doesn't expire. Good luck!
