Starbucks Planning A Waltham Location

Starbucks location would be part of large development in North Waltham.

Starbucks is planning to build a new location in North Waltham, according to two Waltham city councilors.

The national coffee chain is planning a new store in a proposed development at the intersection of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road, according to Waltham City Councilor George Darcy, whose ward encompasses the project. City Councilor Edmund Tarallo, who has a city planning background, confirmed the plans to Waltham Patch.

“In the application … they specifically named it … as a Starbucks,” Tarallo told Waltham Patch.

The store would the city's first Starbucks.

A public hearing about the development will be held on Monday, April 23 at 8 p.m. at Waltham City Hall. Specifically, the Council will discuss upon the developer's special permit request to reduce the number of parking spaces, have a drive-thru window for a bank and serve fast food, according to Tarallo.

In 2003, the City Council rejected a proposed Starbucks because of ideaquate parking, according to City Councilor Robert Logan's comments on previous

A bank, Asian restaurant and other retail stores are also proposed for the 9,000 square foot site, which used to be a Shell gas station, according to Tarallo. Darcy said Daniel Uyu is named as the developer. About 4,800 square feet is reserved for "hard goods" tenants, and the remainder would be for Starbucks the bank and Asian restaurant, according to Tarallo.

Uyu bought the property in July of 2009, according to Darcy. Workers have recently torn the gas station down, he said.

Don, Don't get your hopes up here. The permits are currently under review by the City Council. That is often a lengthy process. They must have those permit before they can open.

I finally got so tired of waiting I went to the Stop n Shop (WestNewton) and bought to large ground types of their brand! Breakfast blend and Medium roast and guess what fellow Starbucks lovers -IT'S FREAKIN DELISH!!! I know the thrill of actually walking into a Starbucks but D&D I just can't drink and this is the next best thing AND it tastes just like a nice hot Starbucks and for me who is up at 4 am - have my good brand coffee maker (which always helps) set on automatic brew and there it is waiting for me every A.M. at 4!!!! I love it and of course reading my morning iPad news! I give it 5 stars for a home brew if anyone is really jones-in for some good rich quality coffee!!! Hope this helps a little! Happy 4th!

I hope something will be done to help with the traffic situation at this intersection. The traffic gets backed up with cars entering/exiting Shaw's. We don't need to make the situation worse.
