MBTA Commuter Train Derails Outside Belmont Center

The commuter rail derailment that took place in Belmont around 8:30 a.m. on the Fitchburg/South Acton line will not impact the afternoon train schedule as the disabled train will be removed from the tracks by noon.

An outbound MBTA commuter rail train derailed in Belmont around 8:24 a.m., a when the axle of one of the commuter cars failed.

The Fitchburg bound train had just left the Belmont station in Belmont Center when the derailment occurred.

About 30 passengers were on the train at the time, however no one was injured. The riders were safely removed from the train.
