Free Film Screening of Carbon Nation - What's all the fuss about CARBON?

Carbon Nation Film Screening and Q&AThis Sunday, March 9, 2014 • 5:00-7:00 pmLocation: First Parish Church United, 48 Main St., Westford, MACarbon Nation is a feature length documentary about climate change SOLUTIONS. Even if you doubt the severity of the impact of climate change or just don’t buy it at all, this is a compelling and relevant film that illustrates how SOLUTIONS to climate change also address other social, economic and national security issues. Presentation and discussion of policy options with Gary Rucinski.
Gary Rucinski is Northeast Regional Coordinator of the Citizens Climate Lobby, a grassroots nonpartisan nonprofit building the political will for a sustainable climate. CCL’s initial policy proposal is to put a gradually increasing tax on fossil fuels and return 100% of the proceeds to households on a flat basis. Gary became involved in CCL after hearing from regulators, investors, and entrepreneurs that the clean energy industry would not take off until “there was a price on carbon dioxide”, the primary greenhouse gas emitted when fossil fuels are burned. This is what CCL’s policy would do. Gary will tell the story of how he became involved in the movement; how a carbon tax would work to stimulate the economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions; how a carbon tax compares to other proposed approaches for addressing climate change such as regulation and cap and trade; and how people can become involved at a level that’s right for them.  Gary holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Rochester and a BA in Physics from Brandeis University.
