Kirkin' o' th' Tartan

To celebrate National Tartan Day and the Scottish heritage of the Episcopal Church, the Church of the Good Shepherd, Acton will hold a special Kirkin’ O’ Th’ Tartan blessing as part of this Sunday’s worship service. The. Rector Gareth Evans, says of the annual event, “Kirkin’ O’ Th’ Tartan” services have been held throughout North America since the early 1940’s and are an occasion for family tartans to be aired, honored and blessed. I invite local kilt owners to come together for this unique blessing.” Although a distinctly American-Scottish tradition Evans doesn’t see it as an exclusive event. He goes on, “Being of Welsh-Irish descent myself, I wear my Evans kilt with pride as it connects me to my Celtic heritage. Plus, we are a broad church and have room under our roof for everyone. I'm all for taking great traditions and extending them out.” Kirkin’ o’ th’ Tartans takes place this Sunday, April 6th 10:00 am at Church of the Good Shepherd 164 Newtown Rd, Acton.
