Lexington Community Education presents: The Privileged Addict with Author Charles Peabody

I’ve made every effort to open myself up and tell my tale of crippling depressions, chronic drug use, social paralysis, identity crises, assaults, car accidents, lock-ups, and a trip to the mental hospital in four-point restraints. I have described the people who I have run over and abused repeatedly, the way I have shattered their spirits, and the things I have stolen from them. I have tried to take you along as a passenger through my journey into hell, stuck in hell, and back out for good. – Charles Peabody, from the preface to The Privileged Addict

In suburban and urban America young people are becoming addicted to, and dying from drug use at an alarming rate. While starting is much too easy, and stopping can seem nearly impossible, a survivor’s story can sometimes be an antidote for the hopelessness that often overtakes users and the people who love them. As Peabody writes,  “I wrote this story to dispel the old cliché that people don't change. People do change. I am living proof”. Through his honesty and hard-won sobriety, author Charles Peabody is working to make a difference by standing strong in his recovery and telling his story of the difference between false and genuine privilege.

Charles Peabody is a recovered addict. He is also an actor, writer, musician, and investor. Charlie holds a degree in Psychology from UMASS Boston. He is a certified MA teacher for health sciences. He is a sponsor/addictions counselor and is currently CADAC eligible, after completing UMASS Boston's Alcohol/Chemical Dependency Treatment Services Program. Charlie also invests in real estate and currently owns and manages residential rental property. Finally, Charlie continues his creative passion for theatre, film, writing and music. He is currently working on a new novel as well as a compilation of comedy sketches. He lives with his wife, son and dog in New England.
