'For Us, for All of Us'

Mike Gowing, a Marine and a selectman in Acton, thanks veterans of the United States Armed Forces and encourages others to do the same.

On a sunny fall day, in front of a crowd representing Acton soldiers from the town's Minutemen through its present day veterans, a bearded man in a jean jacket stepped to the microphone on the Town Common.

This Veterans Day, Mike Gowing, a Marine and an Acton selectman, thanked United States veterans past and present, and encouraged the crowd of local men, women and children to do the same.

“Thank them for their service for their country, for it was selfless. Thank them for keeping our freedoms free,” said Gowing, who served in the Marines during the Vietnam War. “Whether they fought in WWII … or Afghanistan; whether they served on the front lines or in support, they all signed up knowing they were putting their life on the line.
