How to Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree in Acton

It's easy as calling in the Scouts.

Once the holiday is past, it doesn't take long for the "O Christmas trees" go from "How lovely are thy branches?" to "How they heck to I get rid of you?"

Here in Acton, disposing of the spruce and firs is as easy as calling in the troops -- or scouts as it were.

According to their website, Boy Scout Troop 5 and Cub Scout Pack 86 are once again teaming up to offer affordable Christmas tree pickup and disposal service to Acton residents.

Now in its eighth year, the fundraiser is considered a win-win for citizens and Scouts alike. For the suggested donation of $15 per tree, locals can avoid the mess and inconvenience of tree disposal, while the Scouts fundraise to defray the cost of equipment, camp fees and awards.

Pickup dates for this year are Saturday, Jan. 4 and Saturday, Jan. 11. Head on over to the tree pickup website to request pickup and make a note of the day you'll be requesting.

On the day of your requested pickup, the Scouts ask that you place your donation -- in the form of cash or checks payable to Boy Scout Troop 5 --  in a plastic sandwich bag attached to your tree. And leave the tree curbside in front of your home by 8 a.m.
