Do you Have a Roof and an Electric Bill?

This Thursday night, learn how you can reduce your electric bills at "Solar 101" on May 24th at 7PM at Town Hall - sponsored by the Town of Acton: http://patch.com/E-lZFZ

A solar photovoltaic system on your property means you harvest the energy of the sunlight falling for free on your house every day, and turn that in to electricity that you can use to power your house's needs - and on the good days, spin your electric meter backwards.

The Town of Acton is partnering with local citizens groups and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to bring best-cost solar panel solutions to Acton homeowners and small business owners.  The first step is this Thursday night: Solar 101 on May 24th at 7PM at Town Hall.  This presentation and extended Q&A session with state experts will introduce residents to the basics of solar energy, including the details of how the Solarize Acton program will work.

Town officials and Green Advisory Board volunteers are in the process of reviewing the proposals from many vendors. Each vendor has offered better prices the more people sign up. After a final vendor has been chosen, a followup meeting will be scheduled for the public to review the specifics of what the vendor will be offering, including the various payment options, and technical choices to be made.

Homeowners or small business owners can keep track of the emerging details of the program by signing up for updates HERE. Once the vendor is chosen, homeowners will be given a way to sign up for a free site evaluation by the vendor, to determine if a Solar Photovoltaic system is right for you, and how it could be sized and priced to meet your needs.

After the free evaluations, contracts need to be signed betwen homeowners and the vendor by the end of September. Installation will happen over the Fall, Winter and Spring.  By 2013 you could have a drastically reduced electric bill, harnessing the power of the Sun.
