League of Women Voters-Acton Area Invites Community to Participate in the Second Annual Civics Bee, Sunday, March 10, 2013, 2:00 PM Acton Town Hall, 472 Main Street, Acton, MA 01720

Do you know how many justices serve on the Supreme Court? Or can you name three Female Supreme Court Justices?

If you’re looking for answers or you know the answers, we think you’re a great candidate for the League of Women Voters- Acton Area sponsored Civics Bee!

The League of Women Voters encourages civic engagement in all aspects of government, and now offers residents in our communities a chance to come together for a fun afternoon of friendly competition  on the subject of government – how much do you remember from your social studies and civics classes?  On Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:00 PM., the LWV-Acton sponsors The Second Annual Civics Bee to claim bragging rights for you, your friends, your neighbors, or your town group.

This fun, community-building event lets you see what is considered basic knowledge and where you stand.  Every team will participate in the first three rounds, where questions will be answered on paper in a “trivia-night” format.  The highest scoring teams will move on to a friendly competition at the end.  Entry is free, and the event is open to all.  Prizes will be offered to all teams who compete.

Social studies teachers from AB Regional High School are working with LWV-AA to develop questions, and will encourage several teams of high school students to compete as well.  Applications and suggested resource materials are posted on our website www.lwv-aa.org.

If your group is interested in joining in the fun, please complete the application by clicking here and return via e-mail to Sahana Purohit (Sahana.Purohit@gmail.com) or via USPS to the League of Women Voters-Acton Area, Post Office Box 817, Acton, MA  01720-0817.  If you are interested in participating but don’t have a group, please return the form and we will work with you to put together a team. Each team will consist of 3 participants. The last date to submit the completed application is Wednesday, March 6th, 2013
