LWV-Acton Area: Third Annual Civics Bee

LWV-Acton Area invites community members to participate in the Annual Civics Bee. This year, we have changed the format slightly. We do not need you to come up with a team. If you want to participate, just simply contact us!

It's that time of the year again! LWV-Acton Area invites community members to participate in the Annual Civics Bee.

For two years our Civics Bee has captured the enthusiasm of high school students and community members alike.  Last year 44 teams of students and community members vied to answer questions about local and national history, geography, our important governing documents, economics, and more.  This fun, light-hearted and community building competition is about to take place again this year on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Acton’s Town Hall, and we are looking for community members to join with students in this event.

Student teams are busy signing up. This year we’re looking for 35 adults from the community to step up and demonstrate that they’re committed to civics education.  Each adult will be paired with a team of three students from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School and together each team will compete.  The format for the Civics Bee will be four rounds of questions answered together by the team “on paper.”  Each round will be scored, and then the top-scoring teams will go live for the last several rounds.  All are guaranteed to have a great time, and learn some things about our founding documents and our history.  We also hope that students and adults will have a chance to meet and learn more about each other.

We are fortunate to partner with the ABRHS Social Studies department in this venture. We are all looking forward to another successful and fun Civics Bee, and hope you will be able to join us for the event.

Entry is free, and the event is open to all.  The top three teams will receive gift certificates. Prizes will be offered to all teams who compete.
