Representative Benson Celebrates Go Red for Women

BOSTON, MA – Representative Jennifer Benson (D-Lunenburg), many colleagues, and the Massachusetts Women’s Legislative Caucus joined the American Heart Association today in their 11th year of celebrating Go Red for Women.

The American Heart Association strives to make aware that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women-killing more women than all forms of cancer combined. Most women do not notice the symptoms of heart disease until it’s too late, which is why heart disease has been called the silent killer. Nearly 1,100 women are dying each day from heart disease. Thursday, the American Heart Association, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Women’s Legislative Caucus, hosted the annual Go Red for Women State House Event.

“I was honored to join Senate President Murray, Speaker Pro-Temp Haddad, Senator Candaras and Representative Balser, Chairs of the MA Women’s Legislative Caucus, and women across the Commonwealth to celebrate the annual Go Red for Women event,” said Rep. Benson.  “As I have said in the past, I am committed to bringing awareness to women’s health issues, and making sure we work to bring to light silent diseases, such as heart disease.”
