Concord's Action on Single-Serve Bottled Water: Ideas For Our Communities.A presentation and discussion: Thursday, September 26, 2013, 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Acton Memorial Library, Second Floor Conference Room, 486 Main Street, Acton.

Two years ago, Concord became the first town in the US to ban single-serve, PET-bottled water, and last year voters there defended this new law against a repeal attempt.

What were the reasons for the ban? What are the economic costs and environmental impacts of bottled water? Which is healthier—tap or bottle? How have Concord businesses, schools, and community groups worked to help town residents and the many people who visit Concord’s historical sites every year “back the tap?”

Meet and talk with Jill Appel, one of the primary organizers for the Concord bottled water ban. Jill will talk about the history of the campaign, how organizers worked with town groups and small businesses to address concerns and build support, and steps other communities can consider to promote the shift from throw-away bottles to more sustainable water use.
