LETTER TO THE EDITOR: A Humble Plea for Your Vote for Selectman

Resident Eric Romaniak asks for your vote on March 26.

I moved to Acton at the age of 19 with my fiancee, Kate, in 2008. We have been incredibly happy here and plan on living here for decades to come.

One of the many reasons we chose Acton over four years ago is the great public school system Acton has to offer. As a young man hoping to start a family of my own soon I feel it is important to try to help shape the community I proudly call home. I’ve been fortunate enough to make great connections with so many wonderful people in this town.

Growing up I lived in eight different towns and cities from Springfield to Lowell, I don’t want my future children to bounce around like I did, I want them to grow up in Acton and I’ll do everything in my power to make it so.

In my time in Acton I have been the primary breadwinner while my fiancée has pursued a degree in English education at Framingham State University. I know what it takes to work 50, 60, 70 hours a week. I know what it takes to pay the bills and to budget. I know the hardships faced by low-income residents of Acton because I am one of them, I live it. I don’t have help from parents or family, my mother is on welfare and my father died 3 years ago, everything Kate and I have comes from our own hard work and thrift.

I believe our town must be run like anyone would run a household. Simply put you can’t spend money you don’t have and when you do have a little extra money you can’t just offer more services because that money might not be around next year.

I believe we need a little more common sense on our Board of Selectmen and I think I’m the one who can offer it. I love this town and the people who make it what it is, nothing would honor me more than to fight for the people of this town on the Board of Selectmen.

I humbly ask for your support.
