NYC Hears from Acton Resident

Today the New York Times published a letter from an Acton resident and restaurant owner regarding an increase in minimum wage.

There is legislation currently under consideration in MA to increase minimum wage, with tipped minimum raised to 50% of the hourly minimum. This would be the first increase in the tipped minimum wage hourly rate since 1991.

Business organizations are speaking out loudly against this increase, and, language has been added to the bill to cut unemployment benefits as a gesture to businesses to help offset the rising cost of their workforce.

Regardless of your political inclination, if you agree that the current minimum wage is not a living wage in the state of Massachusetts, please consider voicing your support for a minimum wage increase to your elected representatives.

The Local Table is planning to host a community meeting with state officials on this topic in February.  When a date has been set, we'll publish it on The Patch.
