Acton Boy Injured in Lake Winnipesaukee Boating Accident

The following information was provided by the New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol.

Around 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, a ten-year-old Acton boy fell out of a boat in Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, and was struck by the boat's propeller. He received multiple lacerations below his left knee and is currently in stable condition at Lakes Region General Hospital. He is being admitted to undergo surgery.

According to the report, four adults and four children were aboard the boat. Robert S. Wood, 70, was operating the boat. After the children went swimming and boarded the boat, Wood put the boat in reverse and experienced large boat wakes which shook the boat. This caused the boy to fall off the boat and his legs came in contact with the propeller. The Woods immediately called 911, headed for shore and wrapped the boy's legs in towels.

"These accidents are preventable and are unfortunately very unforgiving," says Marine Patrol Officer David Jones.
