Knowlton Drive Home Heavily Damaged in Fire

The three-alarm fire happened Sunday afternoon.

A Knowlton Drive home was heavily damaged in a fire Sunday afternoon.

The three-alarm blaze broke out in a two-story, single-family home at 6 Knowlton Drive. Seven people displaced by the blaze were being helped by the Red Cross.

The fire was reported at about 2:45 p.m.

"First arriving units encountered heavy black smoke and flames emitting from the rear of the structure," the Acton Fire Department said in a statement.

No one was home at the time of the blaze and no one was injured, fire officials said.

It took firefighters about an hour to bring the blaze under control. Part of the back porch needed to be torn down. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
