Police Log: Missing Jewelry, an Acton Man Bagged for B-and-E

The following information was provided by the Acton Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

12:55 a.m. – An officer radioed in to report checking on two people sleeping on a bench outside of New London Pizza on Mass Ave. They were spoken to and left the area, according to the log note.

8:27 a.m. – Police responded to a report of an older man walking in the middle of the roadway on Pope Road. The responding officer checked the area, but the man was gone on arrival.

10:34 a.m. – Concord Police relayed a report of a blue Subaru Forrester allegedly involved in suspicious activity.

1:24 p.m. – Police responded to a report of suspicious activity on Charter Road.

4:47 p.m. – Police responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Mass Ave.

5:01 p.m. – Officers assisted with a motor vehicle lockout at Acton-Boxborough High School on Charter Road.

6:32 p.m. – A caller reported a Black Lab mix running loose in the area of the car wash on Great Road.

9:49 p.m. – Police responded to a burglar alarm on Great Road, where a rear door was unable to be locked.

Wednesday, Sept. 4

2:53 a.m. – An officer radioed in a report of a dead animal in the roadway on Central Street.

12 p.m. – Police responded to Great Road with MassHighway and the Acton Highway Division for a report of stones dumped in the roadway.

3:43 p.m. – Police responded to a reported four-car motor vehicle accident on Route 2. One motorist was transported to the hospital. During the response, one of the damaged vehicles rolled off of a tow truck and struck a cruiser.

4:01 p.m. – Police responded to a report of a man walking up a ramp toward Route 2, carrying a shopping back and looking disoriented. The responding officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the man.

7:16 p.m. – A Mass Ave resident responded to a report of coming home to discover his basement door had been kicked-in. As a result, Gary E. Hamel, Jr., 23, of 100 Willow St., Acton, was arrested and charged with breaking-and-entering during the daytime for a felony.

9:22 p.m. – Police responded to Piper Road to speak with a resident about a possible breaking-and-entering.

10:27 p.m. – A Strawberry Hill Road resident called to report her dresser drawer had been dumped on the floor and her jewelry was missing.
