Tornado Warning for Acton

The warning was in effect until 5:30 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued for Acton and surrounding communities Monday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at about 4:50 p.m. The warning was in effect until 5:30 p.m.

"Go to a basement or interior room on lowest floor," the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said in a statement. "Stay away from windows."

The warning was issued for the following communities:

  • Billerica
  • Chelmsford
  • Westford
  • Acton
  • Concord
  • Bedford
  • Lunenburg
  • Littleton
  • Lancaster
  • Ayer
  • Shirley
  • Harvard
  • Boxborough
  • Carlisle
The National Weather Service included this in its alert:

"TAKE COVER NOW! LEAVE MOBILE HOMES AND GO TO A STRONG BUILDING. GO TO THE BASEMENT OR AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. DO NOT TAKE SHELTER UNDER HIGHWAY OVERPASSES. IF YOU CANNOT SAFELY DRIVE AWAY FROM THE TORNADO...AS A LAST RESORT...EITHER PARK YOUR VEHICLE AND STAY PUT...OR ABANDON YOUR VEHICLE AND LIE DOWN IN A LOW LYING AREA AND PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FLYING DEBRIS."
