Waltham Man Arrested For String of Car Break-Ins

Police say the suspect broke into cars throughout Waltham.

A 27-year-old Waltham man is facing charges for allegedly committing a series of car break-ins throughout the city, according to police.

Anthony Taranto, 27, of 78 Harvard St., is facing the following charges: two counts of larceny over $250, three counts of credit card fraud on three separate occasions, breaking and entering (nighttime felony) of a motor vehicle, larceny under $250 and receiving a stolen credit, according to Waltham Police Sgt. Joseph Guigno.

Taranto was arrested on Jan. 10 on an existing warrant for credit card fraud after officers located him at his home, according to Guigno. During questioning, Guigno said, Taranto confessed to four separate thefts.

Guigno said Tarnato committed car break-ins in the Warrdendale and Roberts neighborhoods in the areas of South Street and Middlesex Road.  Taranto was looking for loose change and easily accessible cash, some of which Guigno said police recovered and returned to its owners.

He was on a one man crime [spree]," Guigno said.

Guigno hailed Detective Mike Maher, who investigated the case, for his good work. Police arrested Taranto after they found items stolen from a car that was parked outside of his home.

"It was good old fashioned police work," said Guigno.
