Woonsocket Police Arrest Woman For Threatening Teacher Through Pothier School Window

Teacher reported woman made "shooting" gesture at her through a window.

A local woman is due in Sixth District Court today at 2 p.m. to answer a disorderly conduct charge after she allegedly made threatening "shooting" gestures with her hands at a Pothier Elementary teacher though a window.

According to a release sent out this afternoon by Woonsocket Police Information Officer Det. Jamie Paone, at about 8:10 a.m., four officers responded to the school at 420 Robinson St. for a report of a woman making threatening gestures at a teacher.

Paone said police have extra patrols assigned to the city's schools following the recent . Pothier School, a public school for students in pre-K through second grade, has about 450 students.

The teacher told police she was in a conference room looking out the window when she saw a woman walking with children on the sidewalk.

According to the teacher, the woman, whom police identified as Vanice Armstrong, 26, of 170 Cumberland St., made direct eye contact with the teacher, posing her hands like guns and gesturing as if she were shooting the teacher while she laughed at her.

Police spoke with Armstrong about the incident, and she denied the allegations. She was arrested after a brief struggle and charged with disorderly conduct. Armstrong was transported to Sixth District Court and will appear before a judge at 2 p.m. today.

Paone said it's a good idea to avoid acting in a threatening manner around schools in general. "Given the recent events we're going to take all those actions seriously," Paone said.

She didn't do this intentionally? Thought it was funny? Are you serious? As a parent of children in the Woonsocket schools, i DON'T appreciate her humor and she didn't get nearly what she deserved for doing something so absolutely assinine! What she did is exactly what is wrong with society today...too many people who act with utter disregard for the consequences of their actions. I won't even get into who is "supporting" those two children because I am willing to bet it is all of us hardworking parents who actually set a good example for our children and are worried sick for the safety of our children. She has no one to blame but herself for her own idiocy and stupidity - she put herself in this situation with her inexcusable, thoughtless action! And she did it in front of children? For shame!

just to play devil's advocate here..what IF she was just talking and something was funny? How many of us (especially if we grew up in Woonsocket) constantly gesture with our hands and fingers as we talk/move/laugh/etc? how many ways could she have been positioned so that it LOOKED like she was aiming a "gun like motion"? Unless there is video of it, we can't be certain. I agree WHOLE HEARTEDLY that acts like this should not go unpunished/unnoticed but let's make sure that we aren't jumping to conclusions if we were not actually there ourselves. Jumping to conclusions, making assumptions, and spreading incomplete stories is often how tragedies begin. Remember, people are not born bad. Society and upbringing have a huge role to play in that. Keep that in mind at all times and remember that your actions and words may mean nothing to you, but could be the world to someone or the destruction of someone's world.

Let's just put it this way, take a look at her prior arrest record: Multiple Assaults, resisting arrest, drug possession, extortion and blackmail, & embezzlement. No need to play devil's advocate in this situation, she isn't exactly the picture of a model citizen!

Hi, everyone. I understand everyone's got a strong reaction to Armstrong's reported actions, but please keep your comments on them civil.

Heard that Venice person was very mad that they didn't let her in the school for security reason. So I think she did it because she was mad at the teacher. That is what another parent told me. Who is the principal there and what was she doing, hope she was protecting the other kids. this woman sounds a bit to be scarry with her arrest record to be on school grounds to begin with.
