Bruce Freeman Rail Trail Update from Westford Patch

Jointing towns vote to seek assistance with funding for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail.

Following a regarding potential parking lots in parcels near the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Westford, plans to move the parking facility for the trail to Acton appear to hitting full stride.

Westford land use management director, Angus Jennings, reported to the board that it appears the possibility of obtaining a MassWorks grant by the Friday deadline for the 10-12 space parking lot in Acton near the beginning of the trail’s next phase close to the Westford/Acton/Carlisle border.

The Acton Board of Selectmen and the Carlisle Board of Selectmen both voted unanimously to approve wording, asking the state to assist with funding that would accelerate a small portion of the trail’s next phase through their towns to where the parking lot was proposed along Route 27.

On August 31, Westford town planning officials discussed and proposed a series of four small concept parking lots along the trail in Westford for further study while also discussing plans for spur trails to areas such as the Jack Walsh Field, or accelerating a parking lot plan just over the border in Acton for Phase II of the trail, which when finished, is planned to run through Acton, Concord, Carlisle and Sudbury.
