Nagog Clubhouse Voting Location Discontinued

Updated information about where to vote this election season.

ACTON, MA, JULY 24, 2012 [From Eva K. Szkaradek, Town Clerk]:

The Board of Selectmen has approved a plan to combine Precinct One (currently held at the Nagog Clubhouse) with Precincts 2 and 6 (). The Conant School will be used for upcoming elections, including the Thursday, September 6th Primary and the Tuesday, November 6th Presidential election.

The Nagog Clubhouse location is being discontinued due to space limitations caused by a significant increase in the number of registered voters in the precinct.
Households in the affected precinct will also be notified via a postcard mailing to follow.

Question/comments should be directed to the Town Clerk’s Office at (978) 929-6620 or via email at clerk@acton-ma.gov.

Where is the logic in that decision? The number of North Acton voters increased significantly. So lets make them all drive clear across town and jam the parking lot of an elementary school to vote instead? That frustrating experience should help reduce the voter rolls a little bit.

I'm pleased to see that we have more than one polling place available for at least this year's elections. I'd like to see us return to more than two in the future. This town is large enough for that.

I agree. Having all the towns people vote in one place would INCREASE the crowds in that one place instead of dispersing them to other locations as has been the case. In addition, I believe the town has done a poor job in advertising this change to the voters in precinct one. The 3X5 postcard, looking very similar to a piece of junkmail, arriving in the middle of summer- that's it?? Where's the auto-phone call, electronic sign or banner across Rte. 27. Surely if we can use them to advertise a concert at Nara or reducing water usage, it should be use for something as important as voting.
